The Journey Back:
How to Embrace Change
1) A Catalyst for Change - Recognize Your Need For Change
In the past year, I took a trip back home, which became the catalyst for change. For the first time in a long while, I didn't feel rushed or pressured by deadlines. I simply lived and felt alive, strolling through the city as if seeing it for the first time. This trip marked the beginning of an eye-opening journey where I identified my own self-sabotaging patterns and sought opportunities for growth. It inspired the following poem and the reconciliation I am currently experiencing with my past work, reacquainting myself with who I am once again.
2) Discovering the Formula for Detachment
Somehow, along this journey, I discovered the formula: to distance and detach myself from the results. I found that if I took away expectations, the audience, or any need or expectation from another being, I was truly free to do what I want. For so long, I created work hoping for feedback, as the process can be lonely. During my time of healing and away from the prying eyes of social media, I gained the perspective I needed to create again. Something just clicked. I was finally able to look at my past work without feeling traumatized. I could be objective, see myself as I was, and recognize the woman I am today. It was overwhelming and still is, but I am able to do it.
3) Embracing Attachment and Letting Go
As I continue to live, I realize the things I love the most seem to slip away from me first. It’s called attachment. Respecting this realization allowed me to see the truth. I am going to die one day, and it will be out of my control. It is important for me to live my life and document it. I am not sure what the future may bring, but this may be the legacy I leave behind. The story. The experiences. It may one day help someone else beyond me. And if that is the legacy I can leave, then so be it.
4) Living Without Regret
Life goes so quickly, and I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night with a pit of regret because I did not choose to follow my dreams and instead became another statistic in this world due to fatigue. I just want to do what I can, with what I can. And I have unfinished business. My goal is to finally put to rest all of the past projects I had vision and hope in. I can still see the plan and I still have hope. I'm learning to communicate and share selflessly instead of keeping my thoughts to myself.
5) Practice Gratitude and Gain Perspective
I have my home to thank for the sight to see this through. I also have my loved ones to thank for their patience, loyalty, and compassion, which have helped me finally reach this point. My home has provided me with the perspective to reconnect with my past and close the chapters I left open for so long. Now is the time for me to become one with Dixon Munro.
6) Closing Thoughts - Commit to Your Truth and Share Your Journey
I am committed to living authentically, creating art that reflects my true self, and sharing my story to inspire others. This journey is far from over, but I am ready to embrace whatever comes next with an open heart and a determined spirit. I hope my story and my work can be a beacon for anyone who feels lost, showing that there is always a way to find oneself again.
I hope to see you again soon.
